E.O. Wilson – “Sometimes a concept …”

Consilience - E.O. WIlsonE.O. Wilson is a biologist and author, known equally for his research, environmental advocacy, and secular humanism. He is a Humanist Laureate of the International Academy of Humanism. A signatory to the Humanist Manifesto, he is a promoter of what he terms scientific humanism, arguing that a scientific worldview is the best path to improving the human (and the world’s) condition. He believes the concept of God and religious rituals are borne of human evolution, and should not simply be dismissed, but scientifically studied to gain an understanding of their significance.

Wilson is one of many well-known scientists to acknowledge humanism, among them Carl Sagan, Linus Pauling, Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, and Stephen Jay Gould.
